Southbourne, or ‘Sobo’, is an eclectic and energetic borough in Bournemouth. It sits above Southbourne beach where it’s hip and happening vibes are what I connected with when painting this piece. Sometimes it’s not what I see that becomes the painting but what a place makes me feel. The wild cadmium orange, warm earthy tones of yellow ochre and various blues in some way captures the connection between this land, it’s people and it’s vibrant energy.
